Our town has two large beautiful parks with playgrounds, splash pads, ponds, volleyball, tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball court, and baseball fields. Mena has a growing community of pickleball enthusiasts, who have access to 3 indoor courts hosted by one of our many Christian churches, as well as outdoor games held near the College. Janssen Park at Christmas and Tapley Park for July 4th host the most stunning fireworks displays that seem to go on forever. Many unique restaurants can be enjoyed, including American homestyle, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, and BBQ.
The Mena school system has great academics and a powerhouse sports program. Mena is home to several manufacturing companies as well as Mena Intermountain Municipal Airport. If shows interest you, visit the Little Ouachita Theatre, where stage productions are performed by our many talented local thespians, or get tickets to Mena's cozy movie theatre, The Silver Screen. For golfers, we have a challenging nine-hole course and clubhouse. When first exploring the mountain, you will want to take the Talimena Scenic Drive for breathtaking vistas and head over to Rich Mountain for hiking or to enjoy a coffee at the historic Queen Wilhelmina Lodge.
If you need a break from the peace and serenity of Mena, there are several really nice day or weekend trips you can experience. A quick beautiful drive will take you to Little Missouri Falls. Here you will be blessed to view the most amazing cascading waterfalls, take a quick hike, and have a nice picnic. Hot Springs and Fort Smith are also very accessible options if you feel like a little trip to the big city. Find some time to bring the kids or grandkids on a road trip to Magic Springs Amusement Park in Hot Springs or to Silver Dollar City in Branson, which ranks with Disney Parks. For such a quaint town, you will be surprised to find we have a Super Walmart, hospital, and Rich Mountain College, which is part of the University of Arkansas system.
Many memories will be created while exploring the Ouachita Mountains with your family and friends. The Ouachitas gravity-fed mountain bike trail system, with its varying skill levels, is soaring in popularity. The famous Wolf Pen Gap for ATV riders includes 41 miles of looping trails, which are all connected so you can plan the length of your adventure. A day on Queen Wilhelmina Lake or the Cossatot River for fishing, canoeing, or kayaking is always a good time. Lake Ouachita is a wonderful choice for camping, fishing, and watersports, while the drive to travel there is every bit as beautiful.
